My wife has a newer jetta, trying to sell it as we speak. Car runs great, its just the biggest pain in the ass to work on and it is gutless.

Sounds like all the V-dub tech's I know. I worked for a dealer that sold Nissan, Audi, Benz, VW, Mazda, and Ford. The only people that drove VW/Audi were the VW/Audi sales staff. I was a Nissan tech, but handled VW overflow on occasion. I'd rather work on a VW that just about any GM, but I'd own a GM before a VW. They both break about as frequently, GMs are usually way harder to work on, but GM parts are dirt cheap.

---- anything but Honda's though. I've got 3 Honda's, and a busted ass S10 now, As soon as the S10 is gone I'll probably never buy anything but a Honda again. Way too reliable, efficient, and solid to waste time with anything else. I worked for Toyota too, and they are the closest, but still not as good as a Honda.

hondas are some of the easiest cars to work on ;) The main thing I hate about vw, bmw, mercedes, etc. is those damn wheel studs, it takes forever to put a freaking wheel back on the car. I work for ford, everything breaks I did an axle seal on an f150 today that had 35k on it, and the ford 500 and the freestyles usually need rear brakes by about 20k. Ford knows about the problem too but won't do a recall. I had a f250 one day with 20k on it and the piston on the rear caliber was shattered.

Don't even get me started on how much of a piece of ---- the 1.8T motor is. If you want hours of entertainment google search "passat (or jetta or 1.8T) oil sludge problem". Read all the ---- you find and you'll see how ------- rediculous that company is, and why I will never own a Vshit as long as I live.

haha, yea i guess i should have known there would be a sensor for the low pad life. i think there was a sensor in that car that told me to light it on fire. that car has sensors for anything and everything. and it didn't take us all day to do just brakes. we had to put in a new coolant temp. sensor, new strut mounts, install springs, plugs, wires, and a fuel filter. volkswagon was going to charge him 2000 dollars to do all that.

You must be high. They are shitty motors if you don't take care of them, but properly maintained they will take constant raping. I've had 2 1.8t's, one went to 160K before I sold it, I think I replaced the MAF once, and the alternator, and had regular maintenance done. My current 1.8t has 56K, and I haven't had a single problem yet.

My jetta has the 2.0L AKA 2.slow. , and will go through a maf sensor every 30k. Luckly I found a way to fix the maf to where I dont have to spend 60 bucks every 30k.
