The current plan is 4G63 (retaining NOTHING Mitsufeces aside from long block assembly - no wiring or homogay IM, etc - so it'll be bulletproof) run through Starion transmission, but displacement and broad torque curve makes things easy.

eh, why not stay toyota. 1mzfe would be a beast, or a 3sge/3sgte. Im almost positive the 1mzfe has the same bolt pattern as the 2jzgte on the trans. Atleast Im pretty sure it has the same as the 3s, since they use the 5s in some camrys and i've seen 3s'es on supra trannys. Dont know if they were using adaptors though. Just speculation, not much information on the toyota scene.

It's the mr2guru guys, they say Toyots engine/transmission interchange is pretty universal, but the wiring fucks you.

They've got a pile of 3S, 7M, a couple 1JZ, etc, but they are bored with the same old same old and want to do something interesting. :P

Believe me we thought about damn near every toy engine, but the 4g63 is the only one that i think will fit without any problems, and be the cheapest to build.
Slap some injectors on with a megasquirt and X turbo and call it a day. :6

We dont want to sacrifice any 3s-gte's to that car (they are getting harder to find) :7

BTW JD, I already measured the VR6, (as we HAD a spare one @ deal) it will fit, but will stick out the hood bout 2 inches, i think the 4g63 will clear if we "modify" the oil pan.

Cheap dry sump - I'm pretty sure we can use an electric power steering pump.

Just telling this story makes my ------- pucker.

My ex's automatic 2001 Golf (2.0L gas?? I forget now.) was shifting kinda hard, so I thought I'd be "da man" and change the fluid. I goto VW and buy their fluid, because the ------- car uses some sort of MINERAL OIL for ATF... at 7.00/Q I happily take it in the ass. The guy behind the counter says "this fluid is good for the life of the car, why would you ever want to change it?".

So I drain the ---- out, it's nasty as hell. The new stuff is CLEAR and the old stuff is brown/black.

I start looking for the fill and... to my suprise there is none obvious. I call VW, and they verify that this transmission FILLS VIA THE DRAIN with a special machine that heats the mineral oil up first etc. Theres not even a dipstick on the car...

SO okay, yah I'm an ------- for not researching it before draining the fluid, but still.

$300 later, the car drove again (not including the tow to the VW dealer).

On the flip side, it did shift a lot better after the fluid change.

Your probably not the first person to fall into that ---- pile. The only porsche/audi/vw automatic that doesnt use that mineral hydralic fluid ---- is the cayenne, which believe it or not has a toyota transmission in it and takes that toy synthetic ---- ($30 per quart).
They tell you that the fluid can only be filled with their machine, but if you have A LOT of patience, you can use a siphon pump ($11 @ o'reillys) to fill the tranny.

The germans are assholes.

Whoever that guy was a few pages back that said vw's are easy to work on, must have changed a few MAF sensors, but porsche/audi/vw are DAMN hard cars to diag drivablity problems on. No Offense. :6
