ok custom seat mounts, how thick steel should i go?

1/4 should be plenty. If we can use 1/4" steel to make spring perches for solid axles, it will hold your ***.

I did the same when I put CRX SI seats in my hatch. I was slightly worried about the safety of them (I am quite paranoid) and I was going to make a nicer set.... but I totaled my car and the seats stayed in place perfectly so I would say they functioned just fine. Just dont use shitty bolts and nuts.....

I had to make a side bracket for my buddy club seat for it to clear the tranny tunnel in my Z. I just used a piece 1/4" angle iron. Works perfect and it like twice as thick as the Sparco bracket that is on the other side.
