Golf 1.8T look good on paper, but it's a VW...I see them on the side of the street everytime broken down.
Or get a new golf GTi with the 2.0 FSI turbo engine. The FSI engines seem to be a good step up..we had a few of those at school...you can take one plug wire of and it runs smooth on 3 cilinders...the ecu compensates for it etc.. but it has a lot of god damnn sensor it will make home tuners like us crazy. Seems to be a good engine nonetheless

I am a huge chevy fan but If you are going to spend 20k on a 50k plus mile big body then I hope you have your wallet open for a rebuild. especially that vette, 65000 miles it's ready to start rattling apart.

hands down best car for that amount of money the handling is insane-the power is perfect-it's very comfortable and it looks better than any car mentioned and all that nonsense of them being that much more to fix is just that, nonsense
they're not even that much more expensive...

New vw jetta gli's and golf gti's rock on the damn handling/comfort. Handle like it's on semi rails but you dont feel a god damn thing in those car. I wonder what those germans did to make for such a smooth car.

My brother has an SRT-4. It is faster than the rest of the cars you posted in the first list. You can get a new one for 21000. spend the other 4k on stage three and you'll be sitting on 500 hp. or you could even buy a used one, I see them going for around 13k. Everyone hates them because they look like neons, but drive and you wont car what it looks like. My brother at stage one, minor mods, like plugs wires, stock intake. Is making over 280hp, and 300tq. thats going to be way faster than the others listed.
