Jon, didn't my engine I sold you have a Z6 timing belt on it? I dind't have a problem getting the timing figured out. I just unbolted the Z6 head, bolted on the y5 head and plopped the belt back on and it was good to go. Does the head have the z6 cam gear or the matching y5 cam gear? It's been quite awhile since I've had that engine. It was the only sohc vtec engine I had that you could cleary tell when vtec was activated. I would go back on forth cause there was a pretty big change compared to when the Z6 head was on it and from my D15b in my old hatch.

Yea I'm still using a z6 belt, still whatever cam came on it. I would assume it's the y5 cam, but I never really cared since the timing was fine. Yea you can definitely hear a deeper intake tone when vtec is engaged. Doesn't put you back in the seat or anything but at least you know it's out of economy mode then.

It's basically a GX, FWIW, and the CR will be 12.5:1. I am strongly considering a T25 at some point but I don't think I'll be able to stay with 87 octane if I go that way. Maybe E85, if we get more than one pump in the county?

I think you need some water injection instead of E85...

when your done you need to make it really aerodynamic to get even better mpg out of it. and draft anything that moves.

you need egr to run super lean like the stock hx 8) super lean +egr = safe egt's or water injection i was planning to build someting like this since my turbo vitara motor used a hx head i was thinking of vaporizing the fuel by having glow plugs in the manifold after the injectors
