i heard that the S15 sr20 has a weak transmission, but it does have the gt28r turbo in it. the s14 is the same as the s13 but it has variable cam timing. just get the s13 motor, some low compression pistons with rods and have some fun.

RNN14 SR20 is the best.

It's that very few people can & have done it on dyno's. And none of them are reliable by any means like that off a dyno. You take one of those engines tuned OK on a dyno. Put it on the street & it's toast. Are the pistons flat out cast, or hypereutectic?

I think most of the problem with toyotas not holding power is the serious lack of real tuning, and people who know what the ---- they're doing tuning these cars. You have a few shops with very good tuners, but they're all wrenching on supras, corollas and sc's. Basic frank style jdm boy hype ----. I've only seen a hand full of 3sge/3sgte engines done right that arn't complete hype engines, even then they didn't exactly seem to have the best tuners. Compaire this to the honda scene, where you have thousands of people wrenching on the same motors, sharing information, tons of people tuning who know what they're doing and have enough expeirence with the engines to know what they like and how they behave. I seriously was thinking about throwing a 1mzfe or a 2vzfe in my celica, i've seen it done on a 5th gen gt-s, not sure if the 2vz bolts up to the trans but i'm sure it wouldn't be that big of a deal to do. I don't know if the car would like that extra 100lbs over the front wheels though, if its even that big of a difference. The 3sge is a pretty heavy engine.

Yeah plenty of them. But it's always because some kid had a voodooII boost controller and a walbro 255 with a safcII hooked up and running 25psi with a 14b. Not the cast pistons fault at that point.

sure, but I think anyone could benifit from something like the wealth of knoledge and the community within the honda scene. You can only do so much research and get so much experience with these engines on your own. People who drop 1200 on a 3sgte swap or 1500 on a 1mzfe dont really like to push things as far as someone with an LS or a d.

Re: If you could pick any japanese engine, what would it be?

It's more aftermarket VS custom. There isn't a major USDM parts catologe for most Toyota engines.
You do not want a weak little 2vz-fe in your celica! Trust me you don't think that car can stand another 100lbs & handle but it can. I promise.
What you said points it out exactly tho. LS, D, etc. They're disposeable engines. Nobody gives a ---- lol! You spend $500-1500+ on a Toyota engine that's built alot better from the factory. You're going to push it, but not so far that you're in danger of sending a chunk of piston cascading through the oil pan. It's just mroe conservative. Now... If you wanna start swapping pistons out. It's a different story lol!
There is a major lack of tuning shops across most of America that can handle the majority of import engine's regardless of where they come from. It's really sad. All it takes to make BIG power on the overbuilt Jap engines is FI & somebody that knows how to tune & how far they can push that particular engine on a bad day.

pitobread ah you're right. E block not T block duh lol! T was the old ass celica, corolla, etc engine. Why choose one of those? Just being different? I'd swap that bad boy out in a heartbeat!

The 3s-gte I think is a poor example of lack of information. Plenty of information on the 3s-gte lol. The major thing I've always been jealous of is the early Honda sceen having cracked their own ECU's. On my engine it's not really a problem, but it would be infinately helpful to have access to such an ability on every other engine.
Same for the domestic guys. Alot of domestic engines are not as good as their Japanese counterparts.... But when you consider they basically run a complete OBD-II level stand-alone in the making for the cost of the right programmer. LMAO!

My brothers got the SR20 in his GTiR at the moment.
I wouldn't say its the strongest engine as it threw a bearing the other day. But can be made almost indestructable so it's got potential.
The engine is currently getting all the hounours , plus a GT35 ... I'll post it when shes all done O0
