Any opinions on the cheapo Ruger 10/22's that Walmart sells?

The ammo prices are what really made me want to switch. I wanted to do the trigger swap and all that and I didn't want to do it to a .223. One thing I found with the old stock .223 was that I had to tuck my head way down sideways to line up the sights, and with this new setup I can line them up and feel comfortable.

What sucked is that when I decided I wanted the 7.62, the gun shop and importer had no idea when more were coming in, so they were impossible to find. I went to a gun show and some dealer had one still at the September pricing ($369) when they could actually be found. I snatched that one, and was standing next to some guy talking to him about my situation, and he followed me home and gave me $400 for the .223, so it was a good gun shopping day.

10/22 is a good gun, as long as you keep it cleaned and oiled. took mine out plinkin the other day

7.62 is the cheapest bulk ammo you can buy.

54r that is. ak bulk is harder to get and still widely used
