Default dumbass question x2

so i guess this can be moved to the tech section? since im getting a little less and less mechanically inept by the day

but idk it is part rant so keep it in gd?

so i changed the alternator on my car.. aand it ran and drove perfect for more than 500 miles in 2 days... got 2 oil changes in that time... car running and driving perfect... clutch drops and what not to make sure the car runs and drives ok before i sold off my monte carlo

so i get an oil change... get on the freeway.. driive 25 miles or so.. get on the offramp then get back on the freeway head home.. turn car off.. get ----.. come back turn car on.. no problems... drive to work.. going 70mph 5th gear.. car just dies... and i hear a nail or something pin.. or what not hit the ground.. then hit the underside of the car... moved car over into emergency lane... lol cutting off a semi that wasnt gonna slow down wasnt fun.. but if i had let him pass i would have been stuck on the freeway...

so park car.. get down see smoke coming ouit the tb... and oil in the tb... dont have time to dick with it but turned key and car did nothing....

call boss up he takes me to work.. next day come back out.. check oil... its ok... fuses.. all ok... loook over the entire engine bay and i see the ground cable to the part connected to the engine block disconnected.. i figured that was my problem... and that was the pin i heard fall off the car... car made no other noises when it died... so i reconnect the ground... turn key.. starter makes click.. then nothing... i touched the starter and it was HOT AS ----... as was the negative battery posst... seemed odd... so i waited till today... went and boueght a new starter.. swapped out the old one... now it doesnt even click.. it does te same thing it does when battery cables arent connected right.. everything just dies everytime i turn the key.. but no click or anything... i touched the starter and it was hot as ----... brand new starter... figured ---- it.. got the car towed to my job.. since it was closer.. had someone drive my monte and give the rex a good push... had car in first rode clutch till i got up to speed with key in the on position... dropped clutch and it was like i had just slammed on the breaks.. lol but it wasnt like when you downshift.. or w/e wouldnt crank or anything...

tried it two more times before i called it a day...

tomorrow im pulling the plugs to check em also the timing cover to check and see if the timing belt went but it would still turn over if the timing belt went right? id maybe timing belt is lodged? haha

so neither of that ---- would explain why starter got hot as ----

so tomorrow i plan on doing that ----

also taking old starter to get it tested...

also gonna try bypassing the ignition switch...

also happy that im finally doing my own car work... even tho yuriy is a ---- bag he got me hooked on learning this ----

also car manual at murrys was ------- useless didnt even show the underhood fusebox in the rex :x

so i changed the alternator the other day... adjusted the clutch pedal so it would engage or disengage? right... idk

awesome stuff.. i love the car WHEN ITS ------- RUNNING... but right now i hate it.. lol

so ask away

1989 crx hf

so yea... heres a dumb question and the reason why this thread belongs in gd...

how do i manually turn over the engine? is it the timing belt pully that i turn?

kthnxbye

were there enough "so"'s in this thread?

Whenever I have ever push started a car I have always used 2nd gear. From what I've always heard, its the best to use.

I would probably pull the alternator to get it tested. cheapy rebuilt alternator that happened to be replaced before the problems seems quite suspicious to me

will try 2nd gear first thing tomorrow i

really dont feel like pulling the alternator cause its a pita to get in and out but its a bosch unit so idt its fucked
and its less than 2 days old.. unless theres a short or some ---- putting unneeded strain.. idk

and that wouldnt explain why the starter got hot like it did
