wait wait wait, how did you blow amps. I want to avoid doing this at all costs.

Re:bassing it up

I did a little bit of ebay scanning today, will some cheap ass generic speakers work to replace my cardboard ones? do you think I'll have reliability issues?

edit: more ebay scanning, found a power seller: http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...ort=3&since=-1
anybody ever dealt with him? seems like a good seller with 98.4% on 10k feedback.

edit2: are amps specific to what you use them for? I've seen some "sub" amps, do I need one of those to drive the subs or will any amp work?

Kyle man, blowing amps is part of the experience. I have pretty much blown everything. Speakers, amps, boxes, cars.

I can now tell you the right way to go about ----, but that's no fun. You probably need to learn yourself. There are many variables involved in making a sound system.. ---- up one thing and the next thing will go wtih it.

You're still a lot better off then I was at your age, you won't see nearly the hard times that I have seen with my cars.

To your answer, alcohol is the major factor in ------- your ---- up. I used to get soooo drunk that the only thing that would make it possible for my hour+ ride home was cranking the ---- up to max volume. That's pretty much what started the random fires in the trunk. Be smart, respect your ----. Even the "perfect" audio system can be blown up.

Re:bassing it up

drinking and driving is definetely not at the top of my list of things to do. I also don't want to blow my ----, so I'll keep the volume down. I've been looking at prices and realizing that I'm a 5.75 an hour part time worker with an LS/VTEC turbo project to put together so this audio ---- will have to go on the back burner.

Re:bassing it up

to be honest, when i first started to drive all i was into was bass, i've had numerous systems in all my cars, and built a few for friends/ girlfriends.

head unit- i used to like pioneer, and anything but sony,
but eclipse is the way to go here, you could put you most fucked up cd in my girlfriends car, and it plays like you just bought it. little bit more rms wattage than the others too. plus, the security cd feature is absolutely fabolous.

subs- kicker, rockford, memphis, blah blah blah. don't buy the cheap ----. you'll regret it, spend like 150 on each sub.

amp- same as above. see if explocivic can hook it up.

enclosure- make your own. its easy, even if you've never done it, but make sure you drill the ---- straight kyle. make it a sealed box, with no ports. seperate the speakers with a wall also. if you don't and one blows, the other has to move twice as much air. fiber board, fiberglass, and bondo are your friends here. don't use caulk in between the boards, use wood glue.

like i said, its all pretty much up to you. if you've ever had a system, you'll know that you always want more. i believe thats a general rule with cars. if you have any specific questions, pm me

Re:bassing it up

Pretty accurate info here. I was driving around today and I saw a newwer ford focus with oklahoma tag that said "XPLOD" on the back.. I assume it was one of those gay ass sony xplode edition focus cars. I would have stopped and laughed at him if I didn't only see it after passing.

Kyle, I can understand you can't afford a system right now, you should be spending the extra money on the motor. Hope our advice helps you out in the future.

Re:bassing it up

kyle i'm gonna be honest with you..... www.respl.com for subs....i have one 12" HC with 1000watts going to it in a ported box tuned to 32hz and let me tell you this thing is insane...i bought two in hopes to fit them both in the trunk but it was impossible... Directed makes some good amps for cheap DEI is the same company that makes orion and all that other good ---- so look on ebay for that and if you need any help ask Xplocivic cause he's crazy with that ----....i'll see if i can get some pictures of my system (i hate not having a digital camera) www.caraudio.com good info

Re:bassing it up

how much are those subs from respl? graduation has done good for me, I might get a system after all.

xplo, maybe you can help me build a crazy ass box out of fiber glass that fits in my hatch perfectly. I never quite understood how you did it when you tried to explain it to me in the chat.

Re:bassing it up

call up and ask them they came out with different ---- since i bought mine a while ago but they are the most durable subs you can buy...the guy at the store said when he was there they were standing on a cone of one of the speakers and when they connected it it still played now thats some tough ---- right there

Why are all you guys still using wood boxes? That is like so late 80's at best.
Wood is bulky, heavy, complex to form into shapes etc..
Seeing how most of you guys seem to drive small cars why not look into fiberglass?
Here's a small pictorial of the box in my Mustang

http://home.earthlink.net/~my50ainsl...20complete.jpg

I still have pretty much my whole trunk. The best part being the sub enclosure only weighs 37# with the woofers installed.
Look into forming your enclosure out of fiberglass. You can shape it how you want and fit it into unused areas of your trunk for the ultimate in stealth.
