Every JVC head unit I have used (even the ones back-back in the day) only spits the CD out in a very shallow way. Don't know about the new ones, but every old one would only spit it out half as far as any other head unit.

What i've found out dealing with subwoofers and amps is that if you go with a name brand, usually the wattage is under rated and you will usually get a nice speaker/amp. But if you find these no-name brand companies, you might find a good deal but you won't get the clarity or longevity of a higher priced speaker. EX: I bought two volfenhag 12" speakers (which were pretty cheap) and they hit pretty hard but I then got two MTX 6000 12" speakers and they hit just as hard or harder but with more clarity and less distortion. The volfenhags were rated at 1000 watts and the mtx at 350 so that gives you an example.

Brands to stay away from:
Volfenhag, Pyle, Crunch, Pyramid, Dual, Rampage, Power Akoustic Jensen, Lightning Audio, Sony, Bazooka and almost any other brand that you can find at one of those weekend warehouse liquidation sales that you have to pay $10 to get into.

Brands to stick with:
MTX, JL, Audiobahn, Xtant, Diamond, Eclipse, Kenwood (especially Excelon), Pioneer Premier, Coustic, Boston-Acoustic, Clarion Pro Audio, Mmats, Rockford, Alpine, JVC Arsenal, and always remember, you get what you pay for.

I generally agree with your statement, but in my experience the 2 Crunch 12's I've had have been pretty good. Like I said I've had them for over 8 years and they still sound just like they did when I got them. I hit 134 db at a stereo shop with them which is plenty loud for my taste.

My friend bought the fosgate series I's at the same time I got mine for like $100 a piece. I connected his subs to my amp the exact same way I had mine in a different sealed box and mine sounded way better. Could have been the box.. who knows. I wasn't about to tear mine apart to find out since the subs are siliconed in there.

I think MTX has alwasy been the best bang for the buck though.

and blaupunkt has always been a friend of mine. It was the little amp that could. After I blew my orion monster amp (big mother fucker) I needed something to push the fosgates (punch) and so I hooked up this little 30w RMS bridged to 1 channel amp. It really pushed those 15s for a while.. then it died like every other amp in my car.. I was pretty hard on my ----.
