Water Injection - THE FACTS!

Re:Water Injection - THE FACTS!
turbohf has just brought something to my attention:
perhaps what you are talking about is a process called distilling, where you boil water and collect the steam, once the steam condenses it is pure water, pure distilled water, the kind you buy in the store if you don't want to go through the hassle of setting up a still.
so perhaps it is you that should read a book or 2, try a dictionary or a thesaurus.

Re:Water Injection - THE FACTS!
I read through this whole thing again and I have come to help people understand a few things:
spraying directly into the turbine is impractical not because it would rust the turbine, but because, as it is said in one of the links given, it will destroy the turbine like sandblasting it.
hey chacko, how's the pump working? any rust showing on it at all? I want to start putting together my turbo kit once I get my b16 in, and this is one of the things I want to do with my kit.

Re:Water Injection - THE FACTS!
The pump looks fine, I would really advise trying to keep it all in the open if you can (I mounted mine under the carpeting in the rear). I also have a 12" sub sitting on top of it in a huge carpeted box (debating selling this now).
I switched to a rubber maid reservoir, which isn't holding itself to the walls very well so now I'm going to use a Windshield reservoir from a talon. The glue should hold up to it better, and I'm using velcro now to hold it to the wall. I know I keep saying I'll take pics, its just my car looks like ---- now and I am ashamed of it.

Re:Water Injection - THE FACTS!
I have a 1990 BMW 325is (2.5Lt inline 6-cyl) turbo'd with a T3/T4, intercooled and water/methanol (50/50%) injected. I am running 12-psi boost with upgraded clutch and lightened flywheel.
I get the methanol I use in bottles of HEET (water in your gas tank remedy) sold at autoparts stores. I seriously doubt that Walmart windshield washer fluid is pure methanol. I bet that it is no more than 20% methanol (just enough to prevent freezing). If you dilute further, there is no way you are using a 50/50 mix.
On my 2.5Lt engine I use a 0.7mm jet (I bought the Aquamist basic system -- yes expensive at $500).
Even though I have an intercooler (7.1x18.5x3.0 Spearco), the water-injection definitely helps. Because the water is injected as a liquid, but leaves the engine as a vapor (steam), its volume has increased tremendously. The effect is the volume of exhaust flowing through the turbine increases, with the benificial result that once water-injection begins, boost pressure rises noticably more rapidly.

Re:Water Injection - THE FACTS!
The other two advantages are that the alcohol creates a cleaner burn in the engine so more of the gasoline burns and that you can keep it cooler to run more advanced or higher compression.
