doesn't the ecu send a signal to activate the vtec solenoid which in turn locks the rockers? so putting a vtec light does not necessarily mean your vtec cams are engaging?
i'll try removing the solenoid signal, will see if there is a difference

and if you still have a dought just call your nearest vtec rep
