When you say that your going to have your turbo balanced, how does one go about balancing it? Do they have a special machine that they put the turbo on to do it?

Nah, just take it to a tire shop and have them throw it on the tire balancer. Same ----.......



Ok, I'm just kidding. They balance them at like 456,987,340 rpm so yeah, it's kinda like a special machine.

when u order the rebuild kit, dont replace the bearings. only replace the seals.

punch the shaft and the compressor wheel with a dot, then when u put it back toghther its balanced.

the bearings in the turbo are worn to fit that exact shaft, they dont need replacing. unless the fins have bashed the housing then the junkyard turbo is a fishing weight.

 

i have an svo t3, .60.63 and it has enough shaft play to barely contact the housings. i pulled it apart and the bearings fit snugly on the shaft, what could be causing the play? i thought it could be the thrust assembly. any ideas? I am runng out of them.

When re-assembliinnnngggg your turbo I suggest using a copper based anti-sieze on your hardware and between the turbine and the cartridge. Loctite C5-A is good stuff if you ever want to take that thing apart again(repairs/upgrades).

 

So just replace the seals. Which would be a universal t3 rebuilt kit then right ?

And when u say punch out with a dot, what the hell is a dot.

He means to use a punch and make a mark "dot" on both so that you can match up the dots and reassemble them as they were. That way they will remain in balance.
