does my oil feed line have to be feed in through the top? or does it matter as long as the oil gets to the bearing?

 

Feed the oil any way you want - its pressurized. The drain side needs to come straight out the bottom because after the bearing its low pressure and drains w gravity

 

on that note, I was trying to rotate the center section so that the oil drain was pointed down, but i can't get the exhaust housing to move. I followed the directions that are stickied in the FI area, I lossened all the bolts, but it won't budge. Any pointers?

 

It's frozen on there. It's a common thing with used Garretts. Just loosen all the bolts and pull out the ones you can. Some won't come out because the bearing housing will be in the way, but after you rotate it they'll all come out. All the bolts have to be out to take the hotside fully off, but if they're all loosened pretty far that's enough to rotate it if you don't want to pull it off. I just use a rubber mallet and whack it evenly all around and it usually shakes loose. If it's really stuck you can hit it with the torch for a few seconds and that'll coax it to move.

 

knock it loose with the mallet or a big hammer wrapped in something like a rag after the bolts are loose. should start to turn.

 

i've loosened them all to the point where it should be moving, but it isn't even moving a little bit. any suggestions?

seriously, rubber mallet will take care of it.

 

Yeah, you need to beat the ---- out of it. I had to use a 5 lb sledge and a block of wood on mine to get it to budge.

 

so, in conclusion, i have lossened all of them, so now using violence will work? k i think i will need a bigger hammer...

 

get the exhaust housing hot-had to get it glowing to budge
