Default Oil drain???

On my B18a out of a 92 5speed car. The oil pan looks pretty shallow and has me worried a little. When a motor is running 5000 rpm I would assume about 1.25 quarts of oil will be in the motor doing it's job, then there should be about 2.75 quarts in the pan. If I drill and weld my -10 an fitting on the pan at it's highest point, will that be above the oil level I know this matters and before I start just drilling, I would like to make sure. Has anyone tested this all ready?
