Default Intercooler Spraying

I wanna make a homemade intercooler sprayer for my car. I know about NX's Intercooler CO2 thing, but i wanna make one that is cheaper. Are there any write ups on this kind of install. I have some idea on where to begin, but i need more help. Also, should i go with water or CO2? I heard on HT that someone made a homemade one out of wiper sprayers, but i don't know if that would be affective.

I've been looking into doing this for a little while now and I've researched the best sprayer/nozzle setup and how to control the spray properly. You need a good nozzle with a fine mist and a one way check valve so it doesn't leak. I'm planning on using 2 for a 6" CC intercooler. The more important part is the controller for the spray. I'm working on one right now that uses thermistors and injector duty cycle to determine the most optimal time to spray.

Yeah you could do that CRXstacy, what nozzles/pump are you gonna use? I wanna put somthing like this together too. If i were you id just put a switch in so when you went to wot itd close the switch and youd start spraying. Then just have an on/off switch inside the car for rainy/cold days etc

ot just hook up a switch in the car and flip it on when you want it, and turn it off when u dont.

I plan to use a couple agricultural spray nozzles (like item 32215K11 from McMaster) and a good 12v windshield washer pump. Some are pretty powerful and some suck. I'll probably just get a few from the jy and see which one works the best.

I think WOT is the wrong time to be spraying in a street driven car. You want to spray a few seconds before you boost because the intercooler acts more like a big heatsink than anything. Spraying at WOT will really just waste water and you won't see any real drops in the intake air temp. If you spray it before you boost, it will allow the IC to absorb more heat during the boost time because the temp of the core will already be lower. Another thing, the size of the water reservoir can't be all that big due to space, so I want to make it as efficient at dropping IAT while using the least amount of spray. Anyway, this is all theory at this point, I have to swap engines, since my rings are fried, and actually have a turbo/intercooler installed to test on before any of this is solidified.

Id say if you had a bigger bar and plate intercooler then youd be right on, their added mass stores heat, but i dont think its gonna take very long at all (im thinking fractions of a second) to start seeing intake air temp drops when you turn it on with an extruded core such as the cc and jrc's. Aluminum transfers heat rapidly. It would be pretty trick to figure out a way to have it spray when youre racing, but not just revving or driving around... i still think it would be of some advantage to start spraying on the ic before getting in boost though
