Upgrade the compressor side to a 60 trim and you may be able to get around 300. Or small TO4B compressor side and get 350 easy. All for $300>. Uber cheap if you want.

The gt2860rs compressor is a t04b housing so it's easy to replicate in a t3/t04b.
If you want to replicate it, you need a similarly sized impellersl.
  • gt28rs compressor is a 47.2mm inducer and T04B wheels are either 48.4 , 51.6 , 55.4 and 58.4 mm. I suggest the 51.6mm to match a gt2860rs.
  • gt28rs turbine is a 46.9mm exducer and T3 closest match is stage 1 with 48.2 mm , the Turbine a/r is .64 and T3 offers 0.63 that's close enough.
  • You also want it watercooled and equipped with the bolted down 360 deg thrust for being able to boost as much as the real gt28rs

If you really wanted the GT28RS, ATP has a T3 housing availible, I think $150ish with the turbo. What I think is the hot setup is a 60trim T3, along with SPA's .63ar divided turbine housing, also $100-150. Make a simple 4-2-1 elephant manifold, add a 3-4" DP and you'll be in absolute heaven. It would spool like a 50trim/.48ar T3 with the power of a 50trim/.63ar T3/T4.

Advice on options: I have an s-trim t3t04b with a .48ar/stg1 hotside, rated around 37lb/min. Essentially its like a 60trim T3 that can support a little higher boost (8/16 blade). My D16 logs show sustaind possitive pressure above 2100rpm, and more than enough by 3k. My friend bought a car with a b16/60trim SVO setup which was a fun car. With the [short-lived] SSAuto manifold it made 10psi not long after 3k with an open downpipe, and 250whp at 9psi. The .42/.48 50trim has about 75% the ability of a 60trim w/.63ar, to give you an idea. With the right setup, the 50trim won't die off much at all. My dyno graph just went down slowly, with HP peaking at redline. Kinda unexpected when you have the stock cat/exhaust on (3" DP helps). I'm unsure about the 16g, especially on a Honda. DSM people go crazy over it, but I think they are deluded because its usually a bolt-on affair. Its similar to a 60trim T3 with a stg1 turbine, although with straighter (better) turbine fins. Given all the info I've seen about it, it really doesn't spool well given its size, and the high-HP cars with it have tons of mods (and displacement).

One thing to note about the baller bearings, they don't make a noticable dent in spool time, the comp/turbo wheel design does. All the bearings do is help transient response time - high-rpm transition from vacuum to boost. People who pay $500 extra for 0.1 second are called idiots IMO, although most people call them dedicated motorsport afficionatos... :P The bigger GT turbos aren't priced as bad, although with the BW units out there they aren't the best deal.

I had an HKS GT28RS on my Euro spec S13 ( CA18DET) Spooled so fast I would burn em through 3rd on a launch and chirp heavily going into 4th. I think that the GT28RS would be comparable to a supercharger in power band comparison. It all depends on what you want to use your car for.

I opted to use this turbo on my SIR EF9 hatch simply because I use my car on curviest *** roads and need that low-end power and torque.
