no hate here, either. i came to this forum for a reason, and i plan to get everything out of it that i can. everyone's (for the most part) been very helpful so far, thanks alot.

I learned ALOT here. You'll get raped then you'll like it. Not the raping. The forum. Geez. Anyway, it isn't boost pressure necessarily. It's the horsepower. What does a turbo do for you? Gives you horsepower. Stock internaled Honda engines can only hold so much horsepower. Again, a debatable topic on too much. Too much is when in blows in my mind, only thing is then, you can't turn down the boost, your screwed. I would say to stay UNDER 230whp MAX on stock internals.

Hey dude anytime you need help PM me and I'll inform you or try and direct you to a better source. I have no problem admitting I don't know something. This is a speculation on the whp numbers and is my opinion. If you want more opinions (which you should) just wait and see what everyone else says, but chances are they'll agree 230whp is max and even at that it's still going to be hard to reach and not to easy on stock internals.

i'm quite sure i'm going to upgrade anyway. like i said, the motor needs to be bored and such. seller says it was burning oil when he took it out of his car (not badly, just needs rebuild... gaskets, etc) so i may as well do some of it then. makes sense, right? why pull it out to do it all later?
i'll let you know if i need a hand, thanks for the offer.

already know both of the above. again, "as stated below" i already have an hp goal, AND also as i stated above, i know the 14b cant do more than 16-18. read and you'll see me say its my "temporary," aka beginner "get my hands dirty" setup.

if you bore out the block for bigger pistons you're going to crack a sleeve alot quicker than with stock bore because when you bore it out the sleeves get thinner, so unless you're planning on getting some aftermarket high performance sleeves installed you can forget about getting it bored huge for more displacement. I had my LS block bored .020" over because the cylinders were out of round, not because I wanted more displacenement.
you don't need 20-25psi to do 11s. 11s are going to be more about how tight your car is, how stiff your suspension is, how stiff your motor mounts are, the stiffer the better as far as quick times. you'll also need some slicks. BBKA is making about 230hp on a stock-block d16z6 running 12s, so if you put some forged pistons and rods and then port out the head pretty good and have the suspension and tires set up good you might be able to get into 11s.
blowing engines isn't so much about boost or hp, from what I understand most engines blow because they're improperly tuned. If your tuning has too much spark advance then you're more prone to knocking and knocking kills engines. Running the motor too lean is also a good way to blow it up. There's no magical hp or boost number that will blow up every single stock motor out there. a while back there was a guy around the forum named Jan making over 300whp on a stock block d16a6 (crx/civic si motor) and he blew it because of a faulty head gasket, not a piston or rod breaking. So if you figure out how to tune your motor safely then you'll be in like flint, that's the part I need to figure out and the part that's really holding me back.

yeh, i knew the part about the sleeves as well, thanks alot for the heads-up though. aftermarket sleeves will be installed at the same time as the rest of the work is done.
atleast its good to know i dont have to forge everything up as much as i had planned. tuning will be taken care of as well, theres a guy where i live thaqt does it professionally, he dopes a good job and is recommended here, so i'm going to him for tuning.
