Or way too big to harness potential. This could be the case with him, might not be, but most likely is. Just because one person works out a huge turbo on a small application does not mean everyone will.

Nope, got a link? I also never said it couldn't be done, only that there are far better turbos out there which would leave him alot happier. Granted you can't usually find a good turbo for the price you'd find a used HX40 that nobody besides guys on HMT want anyways. But thats beside the point. HX40's are also far less durable than their smaller counterparts. I've seen far less HX30's and 35's come through the shop for rebuilding and the shop I work with deals exclusively with diesel applications. The smaller 30 and 35 fists the 40 both in performance and durability, they also have a completely different compressor map.

I already said that.

Tell me something I don't know. No ---- it's a ballpark estimate. The problem is that a majority do no estimating whatsoever then ask "why am I getting compressor surge from 1,000 rpm on up to 4K? I'm fine after that? I just don't get it?"

Brandon's been there done that with multiple cars as have I and has recently installed an HY35 with good results until his rod incident. Brandon is HMT at its finest in terms of his setup. It worked much better on his V6 than it would on a 4 cyl.

Luckily the HX40 is too big to make much power with this motor/enough to ruin anything provided that fuel is in check. I'd bet you a fully rebuilt turbo that you'd make more power and be much happier with a common T3 60 trim and a .63 housing, but you wouldn't have 20 people following you trying to install an HX40 because they don't realize it's not the smartest idea/best combo either.

Don't take what I said as "it can't be done" or "shouldn't be done" I could give two ***** what you do, but when you ask something like "Why am I getting surge" or "whats wrong with my car, why can't I get passed 200 hp at 8,000 rpm?" then I'm going to answer and it'll be an answer that most won't like simply because they don't understand. Thats not my fault.

Same thing different turbo. I'd speculate that you'd dyno the same with either but the difference would be that one would be close to death and one would be just starting to wake up and yawn. Can you guess which one is which?

Exactly, so what.

Well, I can agree with that view on things. Sorry if I was aggro, sometimes I feel like we don't communicate on things.

Uhm, I don't have the vid on hand. I've requested the link on a mailling list I frequent, where I first saw it, so it should be in my inbox when I get home tonight. It's been posted up in some of the Holset threads in various forums... but that's an arduous netsearch since I can't remember which offhand.
