driving around with out charge pipe??
I know iv read it at least ten times that you don't drive around without a charge pipe cause the turbo will spin to crazzy speeds and kill it self . but im just trying to figure out why..
scenario turbo wont make boost till 4800 rpm during which point the turbo is still spinning just not fast enough to make any pressure...would it spin faster if it was not connected via a charge pipe if the engine had not yet got it to a point where it makes boost when it is connected to the engine?

Re: driving around with out charge pipe??
WG never sees the pressure it's set at to open it and discharge remaining uneeded exhaust gases so it spools, and spools, and spools, and spools because it will never see it's needed pressure to activate the WG.

Re: driving around with out charge pipe??
i understand that the waste gate wont see any pressure, and thus the turbo will spin faster and faster
but if you are not revving the engine high enough to make boost like on my car 4800 rpms will the turbo spin faster than it would if there was a charge pipe...
the turbo isnt spinning fast enough to make boost with a charge pipe, would it spin faster if the charge pipe wasn't there
another words if you drove the car easy would it make a difference as far as damaging the turbo if the charge pipe wasn't there...
i just dont see how it would be any difrent

Re: driving around with out charge pipe??
Without chargepiping there would be no backpressure at all on the compressor wheel yeah it would be a bad situation, unless you dont mind buying a new turbocharger after you try it. Post some vids!!
