Default Leaking from compressor

Hi guys,

I have oil leaking from the compressor....42/.48 t3.I call a rebuild shop and they told me not to rebuild but to change the oil return first, they said the drain is not large enough and oild is building up and blowing through the seals but said that once i change the return this should stop the seals from leaking i explained i never had this issue at 4 psi since i turn up the boost to 8 psi this is where the trouble has started, they said the seal should still be fine, but i notice on this board whenever someone says that there leaking oil the first thing is to rebuld the turbo, the dud said that hondas are know to have this issue due to high oild pressure and that a oil restrictor comes with a negatives and positive,to little oil ur screwed to much ur screwed so do i rebuild or try bigger return first?.

Compare how much a rebuild costs compared to putting a proper oil drain and a restrictor on. It's a no brainer. Seriously, my brain hasnt engaged in the slightest while answering your question, because even if you do rebuild it, you'll still need the proper drain and a restrictor.

Have a nice day, fellow nooblet.

Thanks for the reply... My drain is -10 5/8 and my feed line is -4 an shouldn't the drain be enough i had this turbo set up for 3 year running 4 psi no issues with leaks know that it is at 8 psi its leaks should the drain fitting be increase to -12 3/4 and add restrictor or reduced feed line to -3...thanks for the help

Honestly, I doubt the return line is your problem, just get a restrictor on the feed, I'll bet that solves your problem.

A normally worn out turbo will generally start to leak out the turbine side first. That's because the turbine seal wears out faster.

If your turbo is leaking from the compressor side only, this is sign of a turbo problem to me. Nothing serious, but you might need to have the bore diameter of your backplate measured. If it's worn out, it would cause a new seal to be a leaker no mather what and the only way to fix that is to overbore the backplate opening and use a 0.010" oversized o.d. piston ring.
