^ok, ima give it another try,

but one quick question. i just took out the bolts for the compressor side, (not the part i had already taken off) and now the compressor wheel will not spin whatsoever. is that normal? im gonna put the bolts back on and see if it spins again. and try to clock it again.

thanx

matt.

you have all the bolts loose, that's good. you need to bang the back side of the compressor with a mallet (hammer it towards the driver side fender according to your picture). it will eventually break loose and take all the slack out of the bolts, at which point you can loosen them some more and break the center section loose, and no, you don't have to take the bolts out all the way, just take one out to see how long it is, then take the other one's out about half way (you wouldnt' really know how far was half way if you don't take one out to see how long it is )

How about you take our advice and take the turbo out of the car, put it in a vice and then bang on it. I can't imagine how awkward it would be to use a mallet in the engine bay.

persuade it with a mallet. Nothing too hard, just enough to get it to move. There is a lot of friction between the center and housing.
its not between the center and the compressor housing thats the problem. that can be rotated. its the center and the exhaust side that will not budge.

im really startin to think that the bolts have to be taken out. i am hittin the center section pretty hard with the sledge hammer, and it is not budgin one bit!! im not really frustrated anymore, but im just tryin to think how else could this be possible. but its really not budgin, and im hittin pretty damn hard for reals.

Sounds like you took off the (4) 10mm bolts that hold the back plate on? If you loosened them up, there is a compressor seal behind them that might have a spring in it, which would push the back plate into the compressor wheel, causing it to not spin...

You don't need to take the back plate off... tighten those 10mm bolts back down to the back plate and make sure your compressor wheel spins freely. Then put the compressor housing back on there and keep working on breaking it free.

Sucks you are having such a hard time with something that should take < 2 minutes.
