Re: BORG WARNER GM-8 USABLE FOR HIGH HP B16A??
Doesn't matter as there is very little difference between the GM3 and the GM8, pretty much only the manufacture date. They're still RHC6 and a very simple design in which nothing much has changed.
Also, just because they sell for that high doesn't mean that you should rush right out and try to sell it on eBay for that much. These are fully remanufactured turbos which are goign on the intended application, big Yukons. Don't think that you'd be able to easily sell it for $1,200 to anyone serious about boost, anyone serious enough to spend $1,200 wouldn't look twice at any of the GM series when there are turbos that are 10 times better for half the price. Unless of course you found some turbo newb and had no problem ripping him off saying it would be perfect for his single stick d16 and you could BIN for $900. Thats just wrong. A GM owner would gladly pay that price since it's about all they can use when theirs goes bad.
As far as the innards, it is nothing more than a larger VJ11:
Here is a Pr chart for comparison of the RHB5 and RHC6, quite a difference:

No, you need to get away from blanket statements like that. All motors are not created equal, especially with "tuning" Honda's and the like. You're bound to see one guy using X bore and X stroke while another guy is using a completely different bore and stroke with a completely different transmission, gearing, differential. You also have fuel management and use of additives like nitrous. Just because one guy is using one thing doesn't mean that everyone can do the same, it doesn't work that way.
This thread was started asking about the B16 and this is more than too much turbo for that little motor, especially for a beginner. Use of nitrous doesn't guarantee any sort of difference in spool time or overall power, only that you could easily blow your hard work that much sooner.
Like I said, there are better, more economical, safer, alternatives. But who am I to talk, my first turbo car was only in 1987.

i just got ahold of a brand new gm-9 for free, and i think i'm still gonna try it out just for the hell of it. if i like it, tight. if not, i'll just sell the thing and get somethin else. hey hotsex, what do you plan on doing for the d/p flange since the stock wastegate flapper hole is recessed down a little bit is the one you picked up like that at all?

everyone says its too big and wont ever spool....but mine did. Granted it was a lag-monster and im sure it wasnt close to being the best turbo for a basically stock b16, but it got the job done and ripped hard.

im by no means a beginner there pal. ive had 3 turbo cars and 5 setups including my sc61 powered gsr the only reason i ask is because i am not familar with the measurements of this turbo and i couldnt find any definate info.
im lookin for hp in the range of 400 - 450 whp with a solid deck forged internal b16a with cams.
