1 Attachment(s)
well i scored a ------- mint condition borg warner ihi gm-8 for 30 bucks last night.

i know this is the latest turbo out for the 6.5 chevy diesels. but cannot find a/r specs .

i am building a solid deck forged up b16a right now and plan to use this thing.

i figure 20-2 psi itl rip hard. but, any ideas when this beast will spool? i am not opposed to spraying a 50 shot on a hobbs switch to make it work.. just curious

Hotrex, Pm Ghettoturbo. I thing he is using the same turbo or one that is similar. Hopefully he'll be able to give you some idea of the specs.

I've taken measurements of both the compressor wheel and turbine as well as the housings. The turbo itself is an RCH6 and spools fine on a 6.5 turbo diesel at 3,000 rpm, but that is an 8 cylinder. You're going to have issues with lag on a 4 cylinder and by the time it spools to full potential, you better have fuel.

A better bet would be to turn around and sell it again as a good center cartridge costs $800 WITH core exhange should you need one for your GMC. These turbos rebuilt will fetch $1,200-$1,600 complete on any of the turbodiesel website which deal with rebuilt turbos.

Here it is next to a Garrett .60/.63:

So, 54.60^2/61.50^2 gives us a trim of 79 on the turbine.

So, it has a cold side trim of 53 and a hot side trim of 79.

GM3-8, Garrett aiResearch .60, Warner Ishi "T Bird", VJ11.

Small because of the housing my ass ::)

I'm running out of garage space:

If you need it rebuilt, I can do that too. All turbines will be balanced using a Heins TC3 balancer and new componants will be used. Here is the shop:

Damn striaght it is way to large.

Example, the first 3.0L 3vz-fe turbo'ed, and first Lexus ES 300 (with any engine) with a turbo uses a GM-8.
Attachment 37567

It had 240-250bhp worth of N/A exhaust energy, 85% of torque avalible at 2500rpm.
It takes around 3800rpm to make register positive pressure, 4000rpm to make 5psi, 4500rpm to make 14.7psi.

You would be trying to spool that with 1/3-1/5th the amount of low end power it wouldn't be pretty.

sixsick is giving you the best advice you could possible hear. Selling it would provide enough money to not only buy something more suitable, but you would more tha likely have money left over. (If you didn't blow it all on the turbo alone).
