i got my del sol dual core for $50. :P ---- the fluidyne.

 

something may be wrong with your cooling system. i ran a single core and it worked fine. is your overflow tank full? if so your headgasket is probably blown

 

actually the overflow tank doesnt go past the ful mark. I think the 19 year old hf radiator has gone through to many blown headgaskets in the past and is full of junk, becasue in the lower driverside corner is much cooler compared to the rest of the radiator. I hope thats the problem.

i dumped what was in the coolant overflow tank when it was hot and looked to see if there was any oil, and i found none. so hopefully my h/g is not the problem, but its still the number 1 possibility. If its not that than its definatly the radiator or waterpump.


anyways, im not looseing any coolant, and im going to leakdown test it this weekend. I was hopeing to today but i got some company for the weekend so its going on hold until sunday.


but boy...... 3rd gear @ 4000 rpms it just roasts the tires its awesome!!!

 

hmmm, well i did a leakdown test today.... #1 3% #2 3% #3 4% and #4 3% and anything above 5% is great.


basically its holding pressure like it ought to. no blown headgasket.


i guess my radiator is to small and old. im going to get a new dual core for it asap.

make sure your fan is coming on, or wire a switch up to it (great mod for staying cool while in the staging lanes at the track too imo).

i have a switch in the dash that i keep on allways. I think my hf radiator is to full of grime from previous blown headgaskets. Im going to buy a del slow b16 radiator or a dualcore crx hf. cant decide, because one bolts in but its about $100 more, the other requires alot of modifications but than i save $100. I think im going to go with the delsol.

There's a million things you could look at before suspecting HG.

Are there leaks? Air Bubbles? Proper Coolant ratio? Old coolant/blocked coolant passages? Old Radiator? Failing Waterpump? Bad Radiator Cap? Bad/Missing Thermostat? CELs?

At idle, you should be around 180 or 190. When I drive a bit, I never go over 208. This is with new 50/50 coolant, new dual core Del Sol radiator, stock fan, new water pump etc...

 

i put in a new waterpump along with the new headgasket about 3 months ago. new radiator cap . bleed the coolant, bought premixed coolant. basically the whole coolant system has been replaced, checked and rechecked, and the only thing that i havnt replaced is the radiator.

i also put in a new thermostat, 180degress. but the thing is when i had the half radiator in it before, it would get ilke 3/4 up on the gauge repetedly, and would keep climing almost to the red before it would start cooling, it went to about 215 degrees before the thermostat opend. so i gutted the old thermostat for safty. but a gutted thermostat wouldnt cause overheating, would it? anyways i have a pritty good feelin its the radiator.

actually, a gutted thermostat can cause it to overheat, the thermostat regulates flow of coolant so that the coolant has enough time to cool down in the radiator, if the water flows too fast through the radiator it doesn't have enough time to cool. Try putting a stock thermo in and see if that helps.
