Adjusting boost on DSM Internal Wastegate?

Re:Adjusting boost on DSM Internal Wastegate?
Maybe you dont really understand whats going on.. a Boost controller wouldnt work since their is no vacuum/boost here. Hell their is no wastegate actuator! its just a spring! a simple carb return spring.. you can get them at hardware stores.

Re:Adjusting boost on DSM Internal Wastegate?
jeff,
how many psi does it vary from different loads? i've read before that the spring setup is not that stable? i need to know if i can implement this type of setup in my project. need to lower the stock 10psi of the td04. tried adjusting the wastegate rod, but when i got it down to 4-5psi the wastegate is stuck open and there's too much lag.
thanks.

I would say it varys 1-3psi per amount of load. If you are raping the car (shifting each gear to redline) it should hold pretty consistant. Its only when you put a heavy load it increases.

Re:Adjusting boost on DSM Internal Wastegate?
I did cut the WG spring on my 14B...I did a pressure test(I dunno how you can call that)...I had 10PSI on stock form...I've open the WG, than cut the 1/3 of the spring, I did a pressure test and I had 7PSI..., I was wondering for 3PSI to begin....so I re-opened the WG(the WG was leaking after the first cutting) and I've cut 3/4 of the spring lenght....I now have +-1 2 PSI
It's too much low boost, the WG will probably open on normal driving and will open a lot ,for sure, when the engine will produce boost....so....1/3 of the spring should ben not too bad for +- 6 to 7PSI....
BTW: It's not too hard to re-seal the WG....quite easy to do...

Re:Adjusting boost on DSM Internal Wastegate?
Wow, thanks for all the responses, I've definitely got some value from it... so thanks
So...
I've got 3 options to choose from...but it sounds like the idea routs would be to cut the spring in the WG or get a carborator return spring.
LowExr - sounds like cutting the WG spring by 1/2 will put it at ~3-5psi...the range I would be looking for. How did you seal the WG after?
Jeff - have you encountered any negatives with the return spring set-up? does winter (ie extreme cold) have any afferct on this type of set-up?
Thanks

Re:Adjusting boost on DSM Internal Wastegate?
The negitives are adjusting the mother ******, you dont really know how much you are increasing, so you have to go test drive it each time. But I will tell you one thing, it will make the turbo spool incredibly faster, If the spring ever fell off, you would get 0psi, so nothing really bad could happen..
Taking the stock spring out of the actuator sounds very interesting, I may have to check into that.
