using an external wastegate with an internal wastegate port.
I am using a garret t3 5 bolt turbo. i was wondering if you could take a 5 bolt flange, drill a hole where the internal wastegate port is, and weld a tube coming off of it to an external wastegate.
I'm wondering about this because my manifold is made for an internal wastegate, and i dont know if i want to weld onto it.

pretty common, just make sure you open the hole up to the diameter of your external gate. just out of curiousity why not run it internally gated? just port the opening out untill you have 1/32-1/16 sealing surface all the way round and you shouldn't have any creep problems.

sometimes the problem doesent lie in the size of the hole, but the swing valve that only opens like 15*. i saw some new dp elbow that lets the flapper open all the way and it is supposed to be alot better. I still say external is the way to go. furthermore, audi gates are the ----

interesting... yea i love it. I have never had any spiking issues and ran it up to 13psi so far. Ill let you know how it does holding 20+ when i get my engine back from the machine shop i thought you already had one on your whip though? Let me know how that audi modification goes. That would be some HMT ---- for sure. It has a weird seat though. it doesnt use a gasket to seal to the manifold. it has some kind of sprung seat surrounding that makes a seal when you tighten it down? I dont know if all gates have this because its the only one ive owned. so you'd have to hog that baby out too. If i had a spare gate id ------- do it.. im in an advanced CNC class next semester and all we do is projects that the students think of.

No. I was going to try to run it this season, but I ran out of time, blew a HG and so on. My buddy is a fabricator, and I have a family friend that owns a high persicion machine shop.
But with no issues at 13psi that pretty good. I'm going to run 18-22.5psi with the TullosTehcElec. Boost controller next season will my build.

I guess i will be able to let you know before hand if any modification is even necessary. Im hoping to get my engine back on monday and have it in the car by wednesday or so.. ill pm you next week and let you know if it creeps at 18-22psi.
