Default Adapter plate question

o.k. I'm gonna use a adpater plate on my HF manifold but all the adpater plate's I see on this site have round holesin the center. The T3 turbo I"m gonna use has a rectangle shape exhaust flange to connect to the manifold but the manifold has round exhaust out let. What shape do you base the hole that connects the two. Round or rectangle ? All this stuff with finding a certain exhaust flange and adpater plates... would it be easier or can I just use a DRAG or custom type turbo manifold or even can I use a custom manifold set-up for a external waste gate on the turbo I have ? Thanks for any help.

O.K. the turbo I'm usinbg is off of a SVO mustang/T-Bird. IT's just like a T3. The exhaust flange that connects to the manifold is rectangle shape. What if instead of messing with the HF manifold and converting it to a external waste gate if I just bought a after market turbo manifold my turbo should bolt up to the new turbo manifold no problem right since they are design for T3 type turbos ? OR should I just go with the HF manifold and try to make it work ?

Why sounds like you are undecided, you can do whatever you want buddy..

The T-bird turbo is a "T3" turbocharger, and its up to you if you want to run the hf manifold w/ internal gate setup, (adapter plate) or run a custom manifold w/ external gate.

Both work, and do the same job, external gates control boost better.

I appreciate your help Abaz. Also like I said above when making the adapter platethe HF hole is kind of oval and the turbo flange is rectangle shape. When making the adapter plate do you just kind of mix and match the two when drilling and porting the hole. I saw the T3 adapter plate they made on this site and that looks like what they did. Also say I weld the turbo and manifold to the adapter plate do you still have to use a gasket ? Thanks a million for your help again. Like I said I new to the F/I set-ups and I'm almost done my kit soit's getting to crunch time to put it on and figure everything out.

Are you asking if I port match my adapter plates? I try once in awhile to do them, you want the flow from the manifold to have a nice entry through the adapter plate into the turbo. You dont need any excessive pressure in the manifold.

example..

this is the top side, notice the chamfered edges (just to help air flow better)

This is the bottom side, exactly port matched to the exhaust inlet on the turbocharger.

Can you weld the adapter plate to the turbo or manifold? yes you can, But I still highly suggest using some bolts to mount the ****** down, welding steel to cast will not last, especially with all that weight and heat. if you are going to put a weld just around the plate because you dont want to use a gasket that is fine..
