you can weld on that ****** all day long. computer, battery and every other damn thing you want plugged in.no current is flowing through your computer or anything else. you are jumping an arc from your frame (negative) to gour welding lead (positive) you will not harm a thing.

All day long?? maybe even for a year, but the next time you weld on the car, it could be 5 minutes later that you burn up the ecu. Copper wires create less resistance than the carbon steel frame will. What if you are welding something and the current finds its path of least resistance is not all the way around the frame, but through a ground wire that runs to the ECU?

Play it safe...unhook the battery and ground close to what you're welding (directly to it if possible). It can't hurt to unhook the ECU, but it should have it "out of the loop" when you unhook the battery...at least that's my logic.

unhooking the battery will have no effect. the ecu is still grounded to the car even when the battery is unhooked. i have welded plenty of times without any problems, but if you are that worried abuot it then unplug it. im sure most of us have our ecu's sitting on the floor anyway. thats where mine spends most of its time

The welding current can just as easily go through the positive lead to the ECU... in other words, unhooking the battery makes sure that there's no complete circuit that the welding current can go through. Correct?

I heard if you TIG on your engine when the ECU is hooked up it will make your car faster. I think that's true cuz my buddy did some TIG on his crx and its runnin 9's and beat a ferarri.

mig will only get you into the ~12 second range

didnt you know? my toyota ran 14.3 with full stick welded exhaust

damn, i gotta get a bottle of gas for my mig, betwen the tiged charge pipes and a miged exhaust i should be dipping into the 11's
