I usually unhook my ecu when welding on my car....

 

You're simply a moron..... Ground close to area of welding means the current isnt jumping through the electrical system. Unhooking the ground on the battery works better than unpluging the computer. You still leave the radio and every other componet left with the chance of possibile damage. You need to find a new place to go to school where your instructor is the biggest retarded nig nog.

Just unhook the bat, and the ecu. But I welded on my car last week with everything hooked up and had no problems.

i always thought that when you weld on a car just make sure the path from your ground and your electrode just cant have any electrical circuts in between. if your welding current dosnt pass through anything youll never have a prob, battery hooked up or not, i would imagine. but not knowing 100% i just unhook it anyways, but theoretically you dont have to.

 

but unhooking the bat ground is always the best thing to do.

I always thought that welding created a large magnetic field . I never looked into it and I have never taken out my computer when welding on the car, but I always stayed away from it (it's under the hood) incase the field could damage it.
