welding external wastegate flange to hf manifold.

welding external wastegate flange to hf manifold.
How many people have done this? I know its difficult to weld onto the cast manifold, but i think I know of somebody that can do it. I'm getting sick of my internal wastegate acting up and either spiking or spooling up slow because of the way my turbo is clocked . Can anybody post pics if you have done this so I know where the best spot to place the flange is. I heard placing it over the stock o2 sensor hole would be good. Do you think I would need to enlarge the hole?

When ever I weld cast to mild steel I try and keep almost all the heat on the cast and push the weld onto the mild steel. Just dont try to cool the cast too quickly with water, just let it air cool.

I did what you are talking about to my y8 with an hf mani. I bored out he stock O2 sensor hole to 35mm, same size as wastegate and welded it on there useing some special rods made to weld steel and cast. It works fine, good luck.

I'm not sure if I'm on track here, but I had an idea for ya...if you do use the O2 sensor hole and bore it out, why not drill some holes right into the mani where the BOV could mount and tap them, and put in studs to mount onto. Just slip the BOV onto the studs and bolt it down. The only part that would suck is getting a flat surface for the gasket and BOV to mount against. (it does look pretty flat to begine with) Do I make any sense? I was trying to think of a way to do it without having to weld on the mani...
