A stock BP with all the accessories weighs right at 300lbs with the trans at 80lbs.
Thats 242lbs more in the chassis plus a big hunk of that weight is IN FRONT of the centerline of the wheels. You cant sit there and say that the LS1 miata doesnt weigh more than a stock miata. Not to mention whatever solid axle rear-end they implemented to hold that power.
Regardless, it will never have the agility and quick turn-in of the stock car with similar suspension.
Not arguing, just bringing some clarity to the issue...

Re: Twin Supercharged Miata Build (56K Beware)
there is a guy I know who put in a buick 215 all aluminum v-8 trying to get the F.i. system work using GM parts. Looks good but so far he hasn't got running right.

Yeah Hitchhikkr is right. Usually the LS1 guys add 200-250 pounds to the car. It all depends. Some add about 350 pounds depending on what all is added to the car such as bracing and bigger diff, etc. But some will strip the car of emmisions stuff, P/S, A/C, PPF, etc, and end up only adding maybe 100 pounds total to the car. But that's not typical.
Just got my GT3271!!!

adding in to the V8 talk.
there are kits to put small block ford engines in miatas and they claim that they keep the engine far enough back that it still has great weight distribution. it might weigh more, but its in the right areas. they still handle pretty nice. i have been looking into it cause i have a nice 4 bolt main 350 and i work with a guy that has a miata with a ton of miles, but clean body he is considering selling

v8 talk
ya i seen 3 rx7's at thunderhill on the 12th and they head ls1's in them and i talked with the guys they said it actually has less weight than the original 13b
and like the other guy said the engne in the right place , far enough back would put the weight properly

The 13b is a big solid chunk of iron and steel. With a turbo and all its accessories the 13b does weigh more than an LS1. But less than an LT1. I know this for a fact because I had a friend with an FD who has run both engines. Even with the LT1 it didnt really affect handling. I set the alignment on it and the before and after change in turn-in was minimal at best. Plus, there is much more material that can be removed from an RX7, not so much with the mx5.

I could dick around for another year with the SC ---- and finish it, or buy a manifold and turbo this thing over christmas holidays. Going with the later.
Three glasspacks are there to quiet the exhaust. The longer the glasspack, the more it cuts out higher frequencies. The effect they have at reducing higher frequencies is greater and greater for every unit of length you add. That's why I have 3 in line. I guess I'll have to make a video of the exhaust some time. It's pretty damn quiet at idle. and not bad at all WOT.
And Megasquirt FTW! What's wrong with a 250 dollar standalone? Does everything I can ------- think of. Launch control, flat shift, two stage nitrous control, WI control, PWM idle, PID, reading my 36-1 trigger wheel with timing accuracy to 4/32 of a degree, runs my low ohm 550's, runs my WB guage, datalogs, TPS based boost, boost by gear, and on and on.
I welded the exhaust. It's not pretty, it's not perfect. But over 1K miles and it's still holding fine so no complaints.
