after i cut my aluminized mild material for my DP, i deburred it, then used a file to clean up the the welding surface area. no problems Tig welding it. the only thing i wish i had done was weld it with 308 rod instead of the standard mild steel rod

308 is used for welding stainless to stainless, not mild at all. You need to use mild rod since aluminized is mild steel with just a coating of aluminum. After you take the coating off, it becomes just plain mild steel.

308 will hold fine on mild steel, but will cost more. The area that's most likely to have rusting problems is the heat affected zone, whether you weld with 308 or mild steel wire.

Perfect guy I wanted to answer this. I tried welding mild to stainless with 308 and it worked fine. What are the advantages to using 309 when welding this combo. Everywhere I go 309 costs more than 308. All the guys at the welding shops (Airgas) tell me you can't use 308 to weld mild to stainless.

hate to bring up a dead topic but is it ok to use the aluminized stuff for charge piping or will the coating eventunally peel off and ---- the enigne up, or is the coating only on the out side and its safe to use it for charge piping.
