newb welding question!
quick question dose aluminized piping weld the same as mild steel piping. does the aluminized piping need a ac welder or will my smiley be enough.
aluminized - http://store.racing-solutions.org/exbukit1.html mild steel - http://store.racing-solutions.org/inbukit1.html one is for exhast and the other is for intercooler, |
Re: newb welding question!
I just use a wirebrush on the aluminized stuff. You technically should clean and wirebrush both surfaces, but it's not 100% necessary.

Re: newb welding question!
I have welded aluminized pipe before, it seems to work ok. Didn't seem any different from welding regular mild steel. The only problem was the fumes from whatever the pipe is coated in.

good luck |
Re: newb welding question!
The aluminized coating can pop pretty badly at times when you tig weld it, and even with mig sometimes.
Try getting a cadmium plated bolt and welding it...that ---- sucks to weld on. My advice is to GRIND off the aluminized coating from the pipe you're welding..unless you're gonna mig it and don't really care if it looks that good. |
