Just curious, what's the advantage of cleaning the ENTIRE piece of pipe before welding it?

no real advantage for doing the whole piece before welding, but if i'm gonna be at the bench grinder taking it to the wire wheel anyway, why not take 15 more seconds and do the whole thing so it looks nice and uniform? on a manifold, or dump tube it doesn't take that much extra time, but i don't usually do the whole downpipe.

it is just plain 304ss, looks like any other 304 before the wire wheel gets it.

How will you run the oil return on a setup like that?
Do you go over the downpipe to get to the other side?

yes. that is why in the first pic it looks like there is quite a bit of clearance between the downpipe and the oil pan, so there is room to squeeze an oil return in there.

on a serious note, how much for the wastegate jig? need one to test clearances
