Default HMT= Home Made Traction bars (CSaddict style)Now with test drive results!

Well this was my first attemp at traction bars. This works on all 92-00 civic and most integas I think.
Heres the test subject. Notice the wet front because my lower radiator hose blew before I put it on the ramps.

Here are the materials. 2 LH thread 1/2-20 Heim joints, 2 RH thread 1/2-20 Heim joints, 1/4 thick steel plate, 1 1/4 pipe 37", 3/4 pipe 48" long, 3/16"x1 1/2 angle iron, and 1/2-20 nuts and washers

First remove the tow hook and use as a template for front bar mount.

I cut these with a sawzall

Next cut angle iron for control arm mounts and drill 1/2" holes on both sides.Notice my ST bar mounts slightly in the way. Was not a problem though.

Install the plates up front and measure and cut 1 1/4 tubing and postition. I tacked it in at this point.

Next cut front bar brakets for front joints.

Here is the bar after I tigged it smoothing the mig welds out. I don't trust the mig. :P

Here is the bar done with the joint brackets. Ready to go in the car.

Closer look

Here is the trailing arm I made. You use 1 LH and 1 RH thread nut and weld it to the end of the pipe. That way to adjust the bar you don't have to take it out of the car. You just twist it.

Closer shaky view

This is the final install together.

I am going to clean them up and paint them. I am also going to shave the excess metal off to lighten them more. I weighted the material and its about 15 lbs. total.

I can adapt the design in the future so any constructive comments are welcome.

Oh here is an extra. Made this when I was bored.

The heim joints were bought at Grainger and were $10.71 each. The Angle Iron was from Home Depot and was like $8.00. The hardware was from the local hardware store and was $4.00 total. The plate steel and tubing I got at a local metal fabricator for $20.00. So for about $80.00 I'm done.

I am going to try them out tomorrow if I can find a clean road. Lots of sand on the roads due to the snow.
Thanks for looking
Dave

Josh no need for payment. Just buy the parts and bring that thing up to the shop. We can knock it out in a few hours. HMT North East will have traction this year!
