I think doing that setup you mocked up with the cardboard would kick it out too much unless you mocked it up already. Man and then of all the places to put a starter. Did they ever have a problem with them getting cooked from heat from the manifold?

nope, if I did i can score a trans off of a 5sfe celica, the starter is where it should be on those. I just don't want to spend 400 on a trans yet, thats turbo money .

I wouldnt worry about the overall design too much rawr, afterall, your basic log style manifold is going to perform 90% as well as the bling blang equal length blah blah HT manifold. It will get the job done.
I was gonna say the same thing as CS but yeah anyway.
