If the rings are still in their places and look good, take them out and save thier spots. (I know your looking to cut costs on the rebuild) Just a thought. They must have been sealing good, cause the car ran pretty normal, it just had that smoke at idle.

I think I might be seeking a refund from the person you bought it from
Unless of course you were told it was fucked and was sold as is, but if they said its definetely the rings or nothing at all, Id be seeking a refund or atleast a nice chunk
