I'm looking to do a homemade supercharger kit and I already have a supercharger lined up. The problem is that the pulley that is on there right now is too small so it's going to push too much boost. I was wondering if a wastegate on the pressurized pipe would work? I know that I should just get a bigger pulley, but I was just wondering how a wastegate would work.

 

seems like the wrong way to do it but I don't know if it would work or not. Dfinitly wouldn't work with a maf.

 

I'm kinda llooking for the same thing. I'll be setting up a supercharger soon and I would like some way of limiting boost for tuning purposes. I was thinking a wastegate might work well but they are a little expensive and I would only be using it for tuning. Although setting up some sort of adjustable boost might be nice just to make the engine live a little longer. I have been trying to come up with a way of using a BOV for this purpose but don't really have it figured out yet.

I can't see anything wrong with putting a wastegate on the charge pipe? It's really just a pressure regulator that bleeds to atmosphere...

things get a little strange because the impeller speed is based on rpm though..

is this on a maf car?

 

That is a nice project!!!
Don'T forget! You may end up with a different boost level than the original application depending on the diameter of your crank pulley. Just compare the size of the crank pulley from the original car and yours.

I do not recommend a wastegate, I think you will loose all boost as soon as it opens and it'S not gonna regulate the boost like you are expecting. Even Eaton'S integrated bypass valve doesn'T regulate the boost. closed, you get full boost, opened, it recirculates everything.

One other thing you may consider is adapting a radiator filler neck and using different rated radiator caps to bleed boost. I know this sounds pretty lame but I am told it is a tested method and works pretty well. I may go this rought myself if I cant figure a way to use a BOV.

Some bracket racers did simlilar on their supercharger vehicles. They just bleed off some of the boost when they needed to run slower.

 

put a BOV on the pressurized pipe. before the BOV put some sort of pressure sensor and set it for your desired psi, then put it on a switch that opens the BOV when the pressure in the pipe is at or over your desired psi. that would be pretty cool

didnt someone on here use a radiator cap with like a 13psi rating.. i forgot the whole story..

im not sure if regulating the actual pressurized air would be a good idea.. change the pulley..
