Default Problem with welding a pipe into another pipe :x

I have a ARC welder since a week or so, and can make some pretty nice beads on pipes with the same diameter:

The problem I encouter is when I want to weld 2 pipes with different diameters:

the arc walks on the biggest pipe most of the time, and creates lots of slag.
My grandpa told me to point the stick at the smaller pipe about 1mm from the edge, but i can't pull it off
Whos's helping me out here

buy a tig...
just kidding man, you should definately be able to do it, you need to slow ur wirefeed down and hit it right in between, let some filler start flowing and then just make your zig zags.
Clean the metal really well.

I don't think he has a wirefeed...from the sound of it he's going old school with a stick.

Yeah, I use sticks It's pretty hard to lay a nice bead in the beginning, but if you get a hang of it, it turns out real nice. I've used 60 sticks or so by now, and can make nicer beads than most of the mig users

I think your grandpa has the right idea. Just keep practicing, it's looking pretty good.

I kinda pulled it off by pointing the tubes upwards, so that if I welded the smaller tube, the pool crawled a bit downwards towards the bigger pipe.
Here are some pics:

I'm pretty satisfied with it, because "edge-welding" it a pita with sticks

tnx for the hints!
