Adapter Plate Question
I plan on making a homemade turbo kit within the next 12 months and have questions about the Adaptor Plates.
I'm going to be using a D16Z6 as the test subject.
I saw the pic of the adapter plate mated to the manifold and turbo on homemadeturbo, I resized to picture here.

1. What is the purpose of that gap between the manifold and the spacer plate
2. How deep do those bolts look like they go?
3. Would the bolts on the manifold side go all the way through to the other side of the adapter?
4. How deep do the bolts on the turbo side go through? Halfway through the adaptor? All the Way through?

Be very happy that I'm a nice guy and responded first.

1. No purpose, correct me if I'm wrong.
2. Which bolts are you talking about? There is more that one set of them.
3. It wouldn't matter as long as they tighten down, but you'd have a better hold if you had more threads.
4. It wouldn't matter either, seeing as how the bolt would give it a air tight seal.
Use common sense.
Oh, and just incase this doesn't really help you at all, take a look at WeirRacing's adapter plates.

hey, i just finished my first adapter plate that you can check out here .. https://www.homemadeturbo.com/forum/...threadid=31486
after trying to only drill the holes 3/4 way through the plate, i decided to change my plan and drill all the way through the plate on all the holes....
reason is is that i borke a tap off once i bottomed out on one of the holes, and relized, due to the way a tap is built that i just wasnt getting as much thread where i wanted....
now it is a little bit tricky to line it all up right when going all the way through the block, but as u can see it can be done with some patiens...
all thats left for me to do is slap it on and hope it doesnt leak...

2+.as long as you have both gaskets, they should seal the main opening. the bolts will plug the tapped holes also.
3. hopefully it won't take you 12 months. especially if you use all of hmt's resources.
what type of turbo are you planning on using? do you have one already? most adapters are .75" thick and depending on the turbo used the bolt holes may or may not go all the way through. you can take them to almost breaking through if you want.
thanks for the vouche snafu.
click on my sig for my fs thread, there are lots of pics.
