I was wondering the same but with a y8 head on a z6 block.

I assume they use the same belt (tooth count), right?

my brother put a z6 head on a y7 and used z6 parts and it runs fine as long as the timing belt is not to short then you could just tighten it with the tensor.

you always use the belt that matches the head.

a good rule of thumb is to use the timing belt that matches that of the cam gear you plan on using.
