Right when the rod bearings are within spec then not enough oil gets thrown up to the cylinders. They are saying that when the rod bearings are way out of spec or spun, then a significantly more volume of oil is thrown to the cylinders, thus overloading the oil rings.

i have spun lots of bearings, i mean lots. i have torn down every one of them and never found one piston darker than the rest. i have also put lots of miles on those engines with spun bearings. i aucctually just tore one down that had no bearing left, it was just the rod on the crank and still no oil burn. it may burn some when that happens, but not enough to be noticable

same, madmax's theroy doesn't hold water with me.

Max, sounds like you were detonating on #1. Detonation jackhammers the rod bearing, and breaks ringlands.
