No, bad noob

Metal studs need to expand, there's a specified torque for a reason, besides you have to do it in increments to avoid uneven deck seating/ tension on the head. You did do that right? Then thereafter torqued the final sequence to 70ft lbs, correct?

Do it the right way the first time, then rape it knowing that you did everything right.

Oil? hmmm it shouldn't, possibly hotspots? I really am not sure about that one.

I know that the final torque spec on the y8 is recommended 54ft/lb, and the chilton's outlined four steps in tightening the head, but I've heard people doing it in two.

D16Z6: *Tighten the cylinder head bolts in two steps*
1st step - 30 N.m (3.0 kg-m, 22 lb-ft)
2nd step - 73 N.m (7.3 kg-m, 53 lb-ft)

Yea man 70ft/lb is too much. Could possibly have distended the gasket if you have metal + composite.

if you want to get technical about it, even with just the studs in and the head torqued the metal in the gasket will compress causing a seal. removing that seal "MAY" cause a weaker seal if the same headgasket is reused. honestly i would just throw a new one on to be safe. i am sure you dont want to go through all the trouble and have to take the head off for a 3rd time.

true.

I had no probs when I took a used y8 3-layer metal headgasket and stripped it down to 1-layer. reused it several times after that even!
