Default Band-aid gettin put on.. comin back strong!!! HELP!!! Cracked sleeve

Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.........

I pulled my head` today and found what I think is a crack in my number 1 sleeve ... GAY... Got a friend coming to look at it with me tomorrow (Blind fashion-thanks man!). 6 months of boosting 10-11 psi on a 150,000 mile stock f22b1 finally took its toll (allthopugh beaten profusely the whole time for 15,000 miles) LOL.

It still ran, didnt smoke, and pulled HARD, but it would push all of the coolant out of the resevoir. I thought it was the headgasket so we pulled the head, and yes.... the rear of the gasket seemed to be leaking on all four cylinders. The scratch i found in #1 makes me nervous... I hope its not cracked all the way through. Just not sure.

Thought I was just gonna be puttin in my studs, gasket, and living happily ever after... Maybe not now. Still gonna put in the new head gasket and studs- button it up and hope it lasts for a couple more months so i can get a built shortblock (and lsd tranny-just got it today) in it.

FUCCCKKKKK....

QUESTION...
can a head "lift" even though the head bolts are still tight as hell? the intake side of the head gasket seemed to be leaking (and pressurizing) the waterjacket.- therefore pushing the coolant.

Ill try to post some of the shitty pics i took of the "scratch"/crack?

Thank you my niglets....

I would think it can lift regardless, have you ever had the head off before? Apparently a bad deck and shitty gaskets can make that a lot worse. It may not have been lifting at all.

Sorry to jack, but a question along your lines, if you have a blown gasket, is your coolant jacket getting pressurized at idle too?

You have to take a straight edge and check horizontal, vertical, and diagonally on the head and block to make sure they aren't warped bad. Aluminium will draw SOME (as JD will tell you).

Head bolts can stretch, I don't know what you're asking here. Of course those sucky bolts stretch. Like just because you change the head gasket doesn't stop the head bolts from stretching THAT problem is still there. If they ARE stretching and that's the problem the HG/anti-freeze issues won't stop until the bolts are replaced with some ARPs.

i bet you had a pretty agressive tune, it probably should have lasted on 10-11psi but you probably detonated

It could just be a score mark on the sleeve. If it was cracked, it would probably balloon your radiator out like it did on mine when I cracked my sleeve. And at 10-11 psi it would probably have pushed all your coolant out the rad completely, and then when you weren't boosting what coolant was left would probably leak back into the cylinder and burn out the back white as ----.

Just a bit

aLSO As I mentioned... I think its just a scratch... As i understand it if the sleeve were going to crack, it would do so at the top of the sleeve right? sorry no pics, no camera. I have ARP Studs and a new oem gasket waiting to go into the car....gonna copper spray the ---- out of the gasket too..... I think it will be okay. Am definately gonna check for flatness of the block and head, but it hasnt ever been hot, so i think ill be okay there as well. In short, i think what we thought was a crack is a score. Compression was good before it came apart and it didnt smoke 1 bit, or burn oil so i think im just a biot aprehensive about the cylinder being scratched... NOT CRACKED!!!

Whew!!!!!
