really confused?? hg, ringlands, turbo?? what is it??
ok, so i'm thinking i broke a couple ringlands, but i'm not really showing any symptoms other than some smoke, maybe hg, no real symtoms either. the car runs fine, no power loss at all, hasn't burnt any oil since i noticed the problem, no coolant in my oil, not oil in my coolant, etc. the only problem is when i'm crusing part throttle for a while and let off, after about a couple seconds of decel, i get a big cloud of smoke, i know it's oil b/c i have open dp so it comes up in the cab and i can smell it. i did a comp. test after i noticed this and the results were pretty low, but the car wasn't fully warmed up. any input? like i said, it burns no real oil (obviously it's burning some if it's smoking, but not enough to notice on the dipstick after a week of driving like this), coolant and oil aren't mixing, no power loss, only smokes on decel after part throttle cruising, no smoke out of valve cover, no blow by? wtf is going on? i'm gonna try to do a leak down today, but what should i look/listen for to indicate a hg or ringlands when doing the leak down??

well, we'll find out today, i just found out what to listen for when doing a leak down.
air leaking from the intake = intake valves not sealing
leaking from exhaust = exhaust vavles not sealing
leaking from oil filler cap = rings/ringlands
bubbling coolant = hg
none of the above = i'm an idiot and maybe my turbo just took a ---- on me

Man your disease is blown ringlands. Your cure is new pistons and rods. I did the same thign to my car i blew the ringlands.. Replace the pistons sooner than later. as i posted in PF the crack if big enough will push out and scar your cylder wall

really confused?? hg, ringlands, turbo?? what is it??
ringlands: the slots on the piston skirts where the rings go
turbo: it uses exhaust energy to force air into the engine, kinda snail looking.
judging by what you've said I'm going to guess that your valve guides are fuxored, what's going down is when you let off vacuum pull oil down the hole where the valve stem is.

well, this is the same thing i was thinking, but like i described, i wasn't really getting any other symptoms of broken ring lands or rings. so i did a leak down last night and got 6-7% leakage in all cylinders, so i guess the turdbo is just smoking a little, i was too lazy to take the dp off and check, but i'm sure that's what it is now. oh, and the reason i got back low results from the comp. test was b/c i didn't have the valve in the end of the tube :P i was kind of hoping they were toast so that i had a good excuse for a rebuild with forged internals, oh well, it will blow eventually
