as far as i know, you don't have to, but since i've never used them myself, i'm not positive. i've heard from everyone you don't have to notch b series for h beams, just d series.... so my answer is no. the only thing i'm not positive of is the fact that they're b18 rods and you have a b16, i'm pretty sure they're not the same rods or else everyone would prolly be putting ls rods in they're b16
