sounds like you just need to reset all your timing.

pull out your plugs, then turn the engine to tdc. the white mark with 2 little indentions on either side of it should be upwards, and you cam gear should have the "up" inscription generally up (if you have an a6, you use the crooked mark on the bottom of the gear to line up with the marks on the TB cover, if not then I don't know)

then go pull off your dizzy cap and make sure it's pointing to the wire that goes to cylinder 1(the one closest to the timing belt) and when you go clockwise, it should then go to cyl 4, then 3, then 2...check that cuz it sounds like maybe 2 cylinders are firing or somethin like that.

if there's some confusion then ask me

that is NOT TDC.

18 16 14 TDC

when setting the cam timing to crank timing you match 0 deg TDC on the block mark and the cam gears align however they should. then with the engine running you adjust the dist so that a timing gun lights up as the 16 mark passes that mark on the block...

ok so i set the timeing the rotor points to the lower left dizzy plug, so i know im all set here. then going clock wise its 1-3-4-2. and its still not fireinging. it wants to it's turning over very fast. i tryed to start this engine about 30 times. are my plugs fucked. they come out soaked with gas. so whats the recourse. new plugs. what about the gas in the cylinder. so close.

I would check the valve clearances. When i rebuilt my motor, i had the timing, firing order, etc all correct and i would crank and crank and crank but no start. Give it a shot.

did you check your fuel pressure? a bad ground to your fuel pump might be a problem. was with me and a few of my friends
