what car is this we are talking about? try replacing the o2 sensor. or ur throttle body might be dirty,or not closing all the way. does it also smooth out if u unhook ur iacv?

I'll also agree that you're not unhooking the map sensor. if you're certain it's the map sensor, try unplugging it from the harness and see if it dies.

not to insult your inteligence or anything, but are you low on coolant? that will make your iacv wig out and cause idle surge....and my car doesnt die w/ the map un plugged just throws a CEL

i thought it should idle around 2-3k with the map disonnected (not elec, just vac).?

o well.. take off your intake tube and look inside the TB, see 2 holes? plug one at a time and see if it corrects your idle (plug it w/ your finger).

if pluggin the top hole corrects the idle then the iacv is to blame

if pluggin the bottom hole corrects it then the FITV is to blame.
