not doubting you but I was just wondering why? I reused mine anyway but having to line bore just because of new studs doesnt make sense

It's because of ARP's torque specs...they're a little bit higher than factory specs. If you tighten down the ARP's without a line hone/bore it distorts the bore of the journals and in turn can destroy your crank bearings and crank.
